Sight Word Foldable Books

We use sight words to promote fluency in reading.  These foldable books allow students to practice recognizing sight words in isolation as well as in context.  Students will read, write and spell each sight word.

There are four different foldable books for each sight word to each teacher can differentiate for each student's level.

There is one book that provides mixed practice.  Students will trace the sight word, write the sight word, read sentences with the sight word, then find the sight word within sentences and then dab the sight word within a group of similar words.

The other types of foldable books come in 3 different formats.  The first format is where students simply read sentences that contain the sight word.  The second, students trace the sight word then read the sentences.  The third, the students write the sight word then read the sentences.  Each of these three books have the same sentences, but the way students interact with each book is different so the teacher can tailer the activity to each student's needs.

Sight Word Dab It!

Dab a sight word activities are a good way for students to practice sight word recognition.  Sight word recognition is important for beginning readers to gain fluency in reading, and these pages provide a way for students to see and recognize sight words to begin that journey to reading fluently.  Students can also get in some fine motor practice and some hand eye coordination by using dabbers to mark each sight word the correct color.

These pages come in several different lists so you can better fit the pages to your curriculum.  Each list is presents in order of frequency, so the most common words appear first and less common words are at the end.  A complete selection of lists will be provided at the end of this post.  

Another way to complete these pages is to use colorful bingo chips.  You can laminate each page to make a reusable literacy center activity.

Another way to complete these pages are for students to color each sight word the correct color.  These pages make great homework activities, literacy centers, early finishers, or morning work activities.

$1 Phonics Games and Activities for the AB Word Family

Phonics is a big part of our curriculum.  We love playing games games to practice new phonics skills.  These phonics games can be played over and over and over and some of them have several versions to best fit your needs. This post will contain some of the games we like to play and all of them are on $1.  

AB Word Fluency Practice

One big part of learning to read is building fluency.  This packet is designed to allow students to practice reading sentences that contain AB words and also includes a fluency story.  (FLUENCY READING)

AB Word Reading Matching Mats

It does not matter how well one reads if they do not understand what they are reading.  These mats allow students to match the pictures to the correct word or sentence.  Students will read the word or sentence and then place the picture on top of the word or sentence.  We love these mats for providing a hands on way to practice reading. AB Word Sentence Matching Cards

Another reading comprehension activity are these sentence matching cards.  Students will read the sentences and then match the picture to the correct sentence!  This is another fun hands on activity for practicing reading comprehension. (SENTENCE MATCH)

AB Word Clip Cards

One of our all time favorite activities for learning are clip cards.  You can place almost any number of concepts or activities on clip cards.  With these, students will choose the ending that matches each word.  There are also clip cards that have students clip the correct word out of a group of similarly spelled words. AB Word Dice Games

My kids have a new found love for dice games.  They love the randomness of play and the ability to play the same game over and over.  These dice games can be for individual students or a pair of students to play.  They will roll the dice then either color, write or trace the words on each recording sheet.  (DICE GAMES)
